Apple opens a new chapter in history, launching its much-awaited smartwatch that will combine health and fitness tracking with communications. It is the first new product to be developed and introduced under Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook.
Against the speculation it’s called the Apple Watch rather than the iWatch. The new watch will come in two sizes and variety of styles and straps. Apple Watch sounds much similar to smartwatch from other companies but it claims to do things better than the competitors. The smartwatch will launch in 2015 at a starting price of $349.
Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple Inc. proclaimed Apple Watch will “redefine what people expect from its category” and that the wearable is the “next chapter in Apple’s story.”
Compatible with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, 5c and 5 the Apple Watch can send iMessages to friends through Siri voice dictation. It also works like a walkie-talkie connection. Alongside access to email, sending and receiving messages, and making phone calls it supports Apple Pay and can also unlock room the doors of rooms and cars.
The dial on the watch, which Apple calls the digital crown, is where much of the interaction would be. It will be available in two sizes and three different models; stainless steel, Sport collection and a 18-karat gold cases collection.
Nevertheless it has a Health and fitness features which covered a large part of its presentation during apple event. The smartwatch includes a heart rate sensor and accelerometer onboard, and works with the iPhone’s GPS to track and reveal various activity metrics. In addition a new WatchKit SDK will enable third-party developers to enrich Apple Watch with their interesting apps to go beyond the standard notifications.
