BlackBerry is planning to launch a new smartphone with dual curve display, following the path of Samsung which recently introduced Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge at MWC 2015 after the success of Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. BlackBerry made this announcement at the press event held at MWC today. Although no other details were revealed, no names, no prices, or exact release date except the ‘Dual curved display’. BlackBerry also promised to unveil new Porsche Design device and again no details were disclosed.
BlackBerry also released a low specs touchscreen phone the Leap. The Leap is a 5-inch display with 720p resolution. This slate-style phone will be equipped with dual-core Qualcomm processor, something used in Samsung Galaxy S4.With 2GB RAM and 16 GB Flash, and it will support the micro-SD card of up to 128GB. The dimensions of the new BlackBerry Leap will be 144 x 72.8 x 9.5 mm and it will weight 170 gram.
There will be an 8 MP auto focus camera on the back of BlackBerry Leap which will allow video stabilization, 5x digital zoom, 1080p HD video recording at 30fps. On the other hand you will get a 2MP fixed focus front camera for selfies with 720p video recording. The new BlackBerry Leap will be backed by 2800 mAh Lithium Ion battery and will be non-removable. The important thing to note is the new BlackBerry Leap will support 4G LTE.
BlackBerry is planning to sell new BlackBerry Leap in emerging markets like Brazil and Indonesia at the price of $275.
BlackBerry has already announced to bring its different software available for other Mobile plateforms like iOS, Android and Windows Phone. Many will see the ‘Dual curved Display’ move by BlackBerry as it is following the Edge Screens trend initiated by Samsung but until we do not get more detail information we cannot say anything final.
