Nokia, after acquiring the Withings has released a new smart scale called Body Cardio with the capability to measure the heart rate along with other features.
A few months back, Nokia announced that it was thinking of buying Withing, the French-based manufacturer of digital health products. Turns of that the deal was closed ahead of schedule. The buy-out was finalized over a week ago, and the combined entity just recently set up an office in San Fransico a few days ago. Since then the company has been grinding its gear. Withings released its latest activity tracker, the Withing Go earlier this year. The tracker was officially unveiled at CES.
However, whether you choose to believe it or not when the company started manufacturing connected products, its first device was smart scales. Since then, the product line has expanded to cover various areas of activity, fitness tracking and health monitoring. Furthermore, the company has just launched a new generation of connected scale product, named the Body Cardio.
The Withings Body Cardio is Withings latest connected scale. Aside from measuring your weight, the scale has a lot of nifty features as well. The Body Cardio, like many other smart scales, is capable of calculating your body-mass index (BMI), bone composition, and water weight. But, what makes Withings Body Cardio different from other scales is its ability to measure the heart rate. The company says that the heart rate monitoring feature is what takes the Body Cardio one step further.
The connected scale is also capable of gauging your cardiovascular health. The scale does this by using pulse wave velocity (PWV) measurements. PMV basically tracks how fast your heart is pumping blood through your body’s circulatory system. You can integrate other activity trackers with Withings Health Mate app to see if conditions are leading toward potential cardiovascular issues, like hypertension.
That may seem like a trivial feature, but cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death around the world. Many incidents are preventable if caught on time. PWV is an authenticated method used by medical professionals to examine cardiac health.
The Withings Body Cardio scale is available in two colors, black or white. It is currently sold exclusively at Apple Stores worldwide. You can also buy it online via Withings.com for $179.95. Other retailers will be added throughout the summer. The scale works with Android as well and has the added benefit that you will have to probably recharge it only once a year.
