Google’s well-known ex-head, Vic Gundotra is working on the Apple Watch Heart monitor! To those who are unaware, Vic was a part of a Google as the senior Vice President of Engineering and the head of Google+. The genius was even on the list of those people who were being considered to be the possible candidates for the Google CEO position. However, to Vic’s dismay Sundar Pichai’s love for Android devices and creativity for Chrome handed him the title of the Google’s head. And now Vic Gundotra is working on something against the ‘interests‘ of its former company.
Nonetheless, Vic managed to get a position at AliveCor as the CEO of all operations. AliveCor is a company preparing to release a medical-grade heart rate monitor for mobile devices. The HRM for the Smartphones is named as Kardia. It will be available in three different types of accessories. Those will be a Smartphone attachment, a Smartphone case and an Apple Watch accessory.
The Smartphone cases are designed specifically for the iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. However, the main device and the connected app are compatible with most of the Android devices. In case, your ‘case’ isn’t one of those who can support the monitor then you can opt for the EKG monitor plate that would attach to the back of your device. The source of the attachment of the both isn’t known yet. Lastly, Kardia will also be compatible as a swappable Apple Watchband.
Kardia is a medical grade heart rate monitor. AliveCor has also announced that the Smartphone accessory has also been medically approved by the FDA too. It is a good surprise to see that the heart rate monitor has been approved by the FDA without any hassles. Apart from being an EKG monitor, Kardia will also be able to track exercise patterns, sleep activities, diet habits, shortness of breath and palpitations etc.
Seeing all the tracking is interesting because AliveCor has been market has a health a device and not a fitness tracker. Kardia will monitor all the essentials of your heart, detect all the important issues and will easily report and share the data with you and your Doctor.
As for the pricing details of the Kardia, the attachment plate will be priced at $99, the iPhone 6 and 6S cases will set you $114 back, the iPhone 5 and 5S cases will cost $109. There are no details on the Apple Watch band yet, as it still has to get clearance from FDA.
