Security on the smartphone is among areas of primary importance. And thus all key smartphone makers including the Samsung have their own level of security on the device. But it seems hard for the makers to make it secure cent percent. As we find some of the Samsung’s key devices are vulnerable to a number of security hacks including the Galaxy S6 and Note 5.
This time the vulnerability was confirmed over the Galaxy S6 and the Note 5. Both devices were diagnosed with loop holes out of which some grave security issues can emerge. A security check shows that the Galaxy S6 and Note 5 can become victim of call snooping, which stands to be a big security hack in itself.
As we can judge the level of vulnerability of calls being victim of snooping, concerns are high over security on Samsung’s high-end devices. Both the Galaxy S6 and Note 5 come with the baseband LTE modems of native Shannon line. The modem is joined by the Exynos 7420 chipset thus making a native arrangement inside.
The threat was identified by security researchers who found the possible way on the devices for call snooping. Researchers Daniel Komaromy and Nico Golde locate the potential threat on both devices carrying company’s own modems. The software exposure to threat was dedicated through use of malicious firmware after setting up nearby mobile base station. The malicious firmware successfully rerouted the calls thru the base station, thus proving call snooping possibility on the devices.
There are a number of possible exploitation of the threat emerges. The process used to identify snooping on the devices show that it can be even set up automatically. Thus without your activation each time you place a call it can be snooped. The researchers have not revealed things completely but it strongly shows that both high-end devices of Samsung are seriously vulnerable to security hack.
