The monthly security updates released by Google are not being considered as the part of current version. This is because we already have the security update scheduled for this month; thus any further update will be possible till next month. Thus, the Android version number is still unchanged in the recent devices like Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

There are  talks about Google going forward for another Marshmallow version that would be Android 6.1. This is leaked by a reliable HTC ROM developer. The leakster  suggests that the Android 6.0.1 is the premature release before the Android 6.1 Marshmallow. However we may not see the new version this year. But expectations are high for an early release next year, which may encourage future developments. is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Read about our Affiliates Disclosure Policy here.
