How to unlock the bootloader on Nexus 6P

Nexus 6P is an adorable device to use as it is equipped with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow but there are some charged users who would like to have something more, something personalized. This is however not just possible but also easy to customize your Nexus 6P according to your choice. You can do through the bootloader, but for those already familiar, the task now goes thru a new process and here we will see how to unlock the bootloader on Nexus 6P.

Many must have tried out customization on the earlier devices with the bootloader. But the Huawei built Nexus 6P works a little differently from other devices when it comes to bootloader. Here the old ‘fastboot oem unlock’ command doesn’t create any response. The command was introduced in the Android Marshmallow developer preview.

Though the old command is found not working on the Huawei Nexus 6P many other devices still feel okay with it. As in the case of Nexus 5X both old command and the new, introduced for devices like the Nexus 6P, work at the same time. Other devices that come with the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-loaded are also require new commands to run on bootloader.

With different commands the bootloader works in different levels on the Nexus 6P. There is a basic unlock which is dubbed as normal level. For most of you the normal level will be suitable enough. You can flash system images or custom recovery in this level.

Against the basic operations in the normal level there is a deeper level dubbed as critical level. In this level you are allowed to carry out some critical tasks. Here you can flash custom bootloaders on your Nexus 6P but after removing device’s security cover.

Following are the commands you can use to unlock bootloader on Nexus 6P

fastboot flashing unlock

fastboot flashing lock

fastboot flashing unlock_critical

fastboot flashing lock_critical

fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability

As it asks for removing security restrictions you must go ahead before considering the loss of device warranty. So always take extra caution when unlocking the bootloader on any device including the Nexus 6P especially if you have not done it already on some older devices.
