How to update Watch OS on the Apple Watch

Within the one month after the pre-orders began, the Apple Watch has received its very first OS update i.e. the Watch OS 1.01. For the traditional iPhone and iPad users this Apple Watch update is little bit different as to update iOS on your iPhone or iPad you update it directly on the device after getting the software update message. But to update the Watch OS 1.0.1 on your Apple Watch you need the iPhone to download it and then install it on the Apple Watch.

Before you Install Watch OS on the Apple Watch

You will need :
1) An Apple Watch at least 50% charged (definitely)
2) An iPhone which can pair with the Apple Watch
3) Apple Watch charger
4) Wi-Fi network (Apple Watch does not support Watch OS update over Cellular connection for now)

Watch OS is updated on the Apple Watch thorough the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. To check if the version of Watch OS on your watch is up to date or not, Go to My Watch > General > Software Update. Here you will learn if your Watch OS is up to date or not. If the Watch OS is not up to date, you will start seeing the Apple Watch icon with a static gear inside and the name and size of the update. You will also be able to read the details of update before going for.

Once you ready to update the Watch OS on your Apple Watch, perform following steps.

1. Tap on the ‘Download and Install’ button to start downloading the update.

2. This will open a terms and condition document, which you need to accept before you proceed.
As soon as you accept the terms and conditions, the download begins. It worth to note that the Watch OS 1.0.1 update is only of 52 MB in size and should be downloaded within 10 minutes on normal Wi-Fi connection. The estimated time also increases if the Apple Servers are busy.

3. As soon as the download is finished, bring the Apple Watch in the range of your iPhone for pairing.

If your watch is charged 50% at least, it will start the upgrading and your Apple Watch screen will turn to black and then come back but dim light and start displaying the Apple logo with a progress circle. During the update your Apple Watch will reset at least twice and turn to black and come back. This process of updating the Watch OS will take 5 to 7 minutes at-most.

Once the Apple Watch is up-graded, you will get the message on your iPhone that the Watch is updated with the Watch OS version 1.0.1. You can confirm the same by checking the Apple Watch app in your iPhone.
The latest Watch OS 1.0.1 improvement areas are Siri, Measuring Stand Activity, and better calories calculation for indoor and outdoor workouts. Display support for more Emoji characters and now more international languages are supported by the Apple Watch.
