With the rise of smartphones and then phablets having larger screens, Samsung and other vendors filled the gap which Nokia could not fill successfully and as a return Nokia lost a huge market share where it was leading only a couple of years ago. Then Nokia in collaboration with Microsoft launched it Lumia series with Windows Phone and but it still has not acquired the market it lost. Android enabled smartphones have taken the place and it is not easy for Nokia or Microsoft to get back to Number 1 position.
In this quarter Microsoft has claimed that they have sold some 9.3 million Lumia Windows Phones as compared to 8.8 million during the same quarter last year. On the other hand Apple sold 40 million iphones in last quarter and a rough estimate suggested Android enabled smartphones crossed the 100 million figure. This brief comparison can easily tell us where Nokia and Microsoft stand. It is also predicted Apple will sell record 189 Million iPhones in next fiscal year.
Although Microsoft has not revealed the details about its first Microsoft Lumia device but it will be released soon as per the sources in Microsoft. It is to see how new Microsoft Lumia device with Windows Phone give a competition to Android and iOS enabled device.
