As these lines are being written, Sony has started rolling out Android Lollipop for the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 compact in specific Nordic and Baltic regions. Sony is rolling out the Android Lollipop version 5.0.2 with 3.4 kernal according to Xperia Blog.
Sony has announced the dates for upgrading its Xperia Z series to Android Lollipop 5.0 and this announcement just after the days Sony announced that it will rollout Android Lollipop 5.0 only for Xperia Z series and non-Xperia Z phones will not be upgraded to Android Lollipop.
Sony Mobile Indonesia revealed on its Facebook page that the latest version of Android will be available from 12th week of 2015 which is going to start next week i.e. from March 16th 2015. Android Lollipop upgrade for Xperia Z series will bring a lot of big changes included better performance, longer battery life, fresh Android Lollipop material design UI and more apps as well. Most importantly users will be able to move the apps to SD card as well.
According to the sources, Sony has started preparing OTA’s for servers and Sony India shared the schedule as well. We are not sure if this release schedule is only for India or will be applicable worldwide but this do confirms us that the Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 compact and Xperia Z2 will be the first sets to get Android Lollipop upgrade.
The Sony upgrade for Android Lollipop will take some space of 630 MB on Xperia Z3 and 520 MB on Xperia Z2 so if you are planning for upgrade, you should start cleaning your phone for the required space.
While we are not sure when Sony will release the Lollipop upgrade for US, Canada, Australia and EU users, we can predict it will be not much delayed if not the next week. Especially since Android has announced to release Lollipop 5.1, no company can delay its lollipop first upgrades.
