Xiaomi starts rolling out MIUI 7.1 via OTA update

Xiaomi is almost ready with latest version of its user interface, and the OTA update is just about to get released. The MIUI 7.1 will replace the MIUI 7.0 on a number of currently ruling Xiaomi devices. Right now we have a long list of Xiaomi smartphones that will receive the OTA updates in first phase.

It took Xiaomi about five months to update its MIUI 7.0 while still many things are not made clear. For instance Xiaomi is yet to reveal the Android build on which the latest MIUI version is going to be based. The MIUI 7.1 update is set to arrive on some key devices in China. Below are the details of devices on the list.

In the first batch, we have the bunch of devices in Xiaomi Mi and Xiaomi Redmi line up. Among the Xiaomi Mi family the devices listed for MIUI 7.1 update includes the Xiaomi Mi 3, Xiaomi Mi 4, Xiaomi Mi Note, Xiaomi Mi 4i and the Xiaomi Mi Pad.

Against the Mi family the list of Redmi devices is much longer. The Xiaomi Redmi devices for MIUI 7.1 update include the Xiaomi Redmi 2, Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3G and Redmi Note 4G. Current update will not work for the Mi2 and Mi 2S as both devices are already updated to its ROM version 7.1.2.

The users of these devices except the Mi 2 and Mi 2S, can receive the updates as they arrive. As you get the MIUI 7.1 update make sure that your device is connected to Wi-Fi and its battery is charged up to the level before downloading. As the update is arriving via OTA it may reach many of the listed devices a little later.

According to further details, revealed later, MIUI 7.1 is also based on Android KitKat, so users are still not getting Lollipop taste to their phone UI. Other important updates include:

  • Hide/Show folders in File Explorer
  • ‘Doodle’ tool in Gallery for image editing
  • Easier file sharing with Mi Drop
  • Less data usage up-to 50% with Data Saver.
  • New Text fonts and sizes.

As reported earlier, the update is coming to the Xiaomi Mi 4i, Xiaomi Mi Note, Xiaomi Mi 4, Xiaomi Mi 3, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G, Xiaomi Redmi 2, Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime, Xiaomi Mi Pad and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3G.
