Xiaomi has sold one million smartphones in India

Xiaomi has made its debut in India just five months ago and during this very short period it has reached a milestone of selling one million smartphones in the country. Xiaomi has started selling its handsets in India in July 2014 in collaboration with e-commerce company by selling Mi3 smartphone.

Earlier Xiaomi’s Indian chief Manu Kumar Jain revealed on Twitter that his company has now sold one million smartphones in India he tweeted “In dec, we reached a major milestone – 1 mn phones sold in India! Thank u for your love and support.”

With this milestone Xiaomi has equaled the progress of Motorola of selling one million smartphones in the space of five months. Motorola also sold one million handsets in India in its first five months in the country.

After launching its devices in India the Chinese smartphone maker never looked back. eCommerce site was crashed on the same day of the launch of Mi3 smartphone because the site received some serious traffic to buy the phones and all the samples of Mi3 smartphone were sold out in about half an hour.

Following the launch of Mi3 smartphone, Xiaomi released two more devices Redmi Note and Redmi 1S and unsurprisingly these devices were also sold out in just matter of minutes via Flipkart.

The Xiaomi is now became the third largest smartphone seller of the world, According to a recent report by the marketing intelligence firm, International Data Corporation (IDC).

Eariler in this month Xiaomi Vice President Hugo Barra’s revealed that the company is trying to make highly localized apps and mobile internet services for Indian customers. He said “We’re working on local language with very high priority. We have dozen of language projects in very advanced stage.”

After all this success Xiaomi has faced some legal problems in India as well because Ericsson claimed that Xiaomi’s smartphones breached several of its patents. Due to this legal issue the company was recently banned by the Delhi High Court to sale its product in India and sale ban cannot be lifted before February 5, 2015. However later the banned was partially lifted by another Court and now Xiaomi can sell the smartphones that have Qualcomm chipsets until January 8, 2015. After this partially lift of ban now Xiaomi can sell at least Redmi 1S in Indian Market.
