Li-Fi Vs Wi-Fi: Sorry Wi-Fi, we have 100 times faster; Li-Fi!

Wi-Fi was considered as completely miraculous when it made its debut around the world. Since then, the internet signals received through the little device has been able to perform wonders. We all remember those excruciating moments when we had to use the single wire to connect our PC with. The pain-strucking hours spent over wired internet can never be forgotten. We are all accustomed to Wi-Fi now. Now, we all need to hear about the amazing new entry; Li-Fi.

The technology is still in its debut stage. But, the new arrival has the capacity to entirely change the way we use internet in our everyday lives. The new Li-Fi is much speedier than the Wi-Fi. It is secure and potentially provides more power and energy.

Li-Fi, which stands for Light Fidelity, is the hottest topic for news nowadays. The reason is that Velmenni, an Estonian company, has conducted a test on the new tech. The test result shows that Li-Fi is able to transfer 1 Gbps data between devices. This speed is approximately 100 times faster than Wi-Fi. Yes, you have heard it right, 100 times faster! As per the lab test with the same tech, the fastest speed recorded was 224 Gbps. Such are the miracles of light!

Let’s take a deeper look at what is Li-Fi;

What exactly is Li-Fi?

Li-Fi has been most clearly extracted by a professor at The University of Edinburgh, Harold Haas. He is the co-founder of the company pureLiFi. The new company is convinced to bring new and innovative technologies to the world.

Li-Fi works entirely on light. The most rejuvenating energy source is LED bulbs. Li-Fi transfers the data over the light waves. Wi-Fi uses radio waves for data transmission.

Well, we all know the light is the fastest source! This means that Li-Fi is completely wireless. Not only does it transfer data wirelessly to you, but it also receives data wirelessly. In Wi-Fi’s case, we all know that the situation is not same. Li-Fi works on wireless protocols, same as Wi-Fi, 802.11.

All you need is new bulbs for the Li-Fi connectivity. Li-Fi also needs photosensor to work in your Smartphones and tablets. Photosensors or Photodetectors can detect the light from the incoming source.

Li-Fi works on what basis?

Li-Fi works similar to the infrared technology instilled in your Televisions sets. Infrared works in very simple principle. An input command is given and that is then turned into a binary code. The code will then be transmitted through the infrared light waves by the sensor of the source.

In case of Li-Fi, the internet server will be connected to a cable; the cable is attached to several LED bulbs in your home or office. The LED bulbs will deliver the data as modulating light waves. The photodetector on your phone or laptop will pick those lights and will decode them.

It implies that as soon as LED bulb casts light, your photosensor detects it, you are ready to get the internet access. And what more, the speed is faster than Wi-Fi. Bingo!

The only thing that needs to be taken care of is that Li-Fi needs a direct LED connection in front of your laptop or mobile phone. This means that, however, you can use your Wi-Fi anywhere around the house, Li-Fi will only work in front of LEDs. Irony?

Why is Li-Fi better than Wi-Fi?

Li-Fi has a lot of potential. It certainly has many benefits. Some of them are;

Can Li-Fi change the way we associate ourselves with internet?

Most people argue that this new technology, even though speedier than Wi-Fi is not much independent. The promoters of this technology say that Li-Fi is more of an additional power source for your existing set-up. It boosts your usage.

We cannot tell that how Li-Fi is going to revolutionize the internet scene. But, the sole thing we are confirmed is that this new tech is definitely a boost and prelude for the new technologies. We do not expect this product to have a record-smashing entry anytime soon.

PureLifi is the company which has paired with a French company to introduce this amazing technology by the third quarter of 2016, around the world.

Bottom Line:

Li-Fi is a really cool technology. It can potentially increase the wireless connectivity scene. It has the talent of replacing the Wi-Fi around the globe.

But, the culminating point is that no matter how much invigorating this technology is it still needs time to establish. So, to be very frank, for a time nothing changes even if this technology goes 100 times faster than the Wi-Fi.
