Google Cardboard: VR headsets for Tablet Announced

Google CardboardIf you don’t know about the Google Cardboard already you must be living under a rock. But just in case you are, here’s what Google Cardboard is; it is the cheapest and most easily accessible virtual reality headset out there. Basically, Google Cardboard is exactly what the name suggests; a cardboard cut-out. It is equipped with lenses and a slot where you can insert your smartphone. You can make one for free or buy it for as little as $10. So, if you want a taste of virtual reality but don’t want to spend the big bucks on headsets like the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, Cardboard is the best choice.

Google has recently announced virtual reality headsets for tablets. These will be just like the Cardboard for smartphones, and they are being referred  to as Cardboard for Tablets. It looks like Google is going BIG when it comes to VR headsets. A question that will arise in many people’s minds is, why do we need a VR headset for Tablet when we have headsets that accommodate smartphones which are much smaller and easier to handle. The answer to this question is that since the tablets have larger displays, they will provide a better, more immersive virtual reality experience than the smartphones. Cardboard for Tablets is available as a PDF Download. The PDF includes instructions on how to create your own headset from any cardboard box.

Along with the announcement of Cardboard for Tablets, there are also a number of virtual reality apps also being released. These apps can ideally demonstrate the capabilities of  the tablet Cardboard. Two of those newly released apps are:

This application will allow you to watch someone else use virtual reality headset, in virtual reality. There is an in-app purchase feature, which unlocks a higher experience tier. In it you can watch in virtual reality, someone else watching, someone else using a virtual reality headset. Weird and yet intriguing isn’t it?

It is all in the name, you get to experience dating a virtual girl, in virtual reality. A date in the comfort of your living room.

What do you think about the Cardboard for tablets? Will it be better than the smartphone version?
