How does iPhone 6S 3D Touch Display Work

The announcement of latest iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S at the dedicated event in San Francisco was highly awaited. Fans of Apple devices were looking forward to the company’s event for quite awhile. Restless tech enthusiasts tried to dig up all they could about the event but Apple managed to keep its surprises anyway. The company announced some impressive features for the upcoming iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S which are bound to take the smartphone experience to new levels. One of the most intriguing features was the iPhone 6S 3D Touch  which is based on the completely new multi-touch technology by Apple.

We already have the seen the Force Touch feature in the Apple Watch and the new MacBook Pro and now Apple has introduced the 3D Touch feature in iPhone 6S which is also based on Taptic Engine.

What is 3D Touch:

The iPhone 6S 3D Touch display is the next evolution of the multi-touch display and it is also one of the key improvements we have seen. Apple has improved the display in various ways. Apart from the size and resolution details, there is a new feature dubbed as 3D Touch. The integrated screen system enables the device to get three levels of touch.iPhone 6S 3D touch

Like many other features introduced at the event, iPhone is for the first time going to have the nice feature. It not only improves the touch mechanism of your iPhone but also increases the ways you touch your iPhone display. Here we have some tools to introduce you to this brand new feature on iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.

3D Touch Peek & Pop Feature:

Apple has paid much emphasize on hardware-software integration. Thus while using the 3D Touch feature you will get the best singular experience of software and hardware. The three ways touch experience includes the tapping, swiping and pressure touch. Though all of three touch functions are present in last year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus they are now fully functional in this year’s iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.

Now with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus users will be able to use the touch features at different levels. With 3D Touch now iPhone users don’t need to stay with the usual 2D world. For instance, thru the newly introduced gesture dubbed as peek and pop you can get a quick access to info. A long press from anywhere will take you to a variety of options. You can also put an icon on home screen to directly access and modify the feature. iPhone 6S Apple 3D Touch Peek and Pop

3D Touch Quick Actions Feature:

The iPhone 6S 3D touch also comes with a quick actions feature. The Quick Actions can work inside apps as well as outside of apps right from the home screen. If an app supports quick actions like Mail, Phone, Messages, and a number of other Apple and third-party apps like Twitter currently then force press on the app’s icon on the home screen. Doing so will make the rest of the home screen  quickly frost over so only the app’s icon and a series of contextual menus appear. These contextual menus are Quick Actions. Tap on one to perform the action.

Currently, there are only a few apps that support 3D Touch display technology in Apple iPhone 6S, but we can expect more apps to get the feature very soon.  To understand the 3D Touch features in detail check out the video below.

Hands-On with 3D Touch on iPhone 6S Plus

As we have discussed earlier, 3D Touch functionality supports on the inside and outside of the apps. For example, to have a quick interaction with an app, one can press down on an app’s icon, this is the use of 3D Touch outside the app and is called as Quick Actions. Similarly, you can now call the one you called just recently by pressing the phone app. One more example of the Quick Action is taking the quick selfie by holding down the camera app for a while.

Likewise, the use of 3D Touch ‘inside the apps’ depends on the ‘Peek’ and ‘Pop’. A simple ‘Peek’ example is viewing the message thread by pressing softly whereas pressing down a little harder initiates the ‘Pop’ function and lets you reply the message. You can convert the keyboard into the trackpad by using the 3D Touch feature as well. Watch the below video to see how does the 3D Touch works on an iPhone 6S Plus.

How to Adjust 3D Touch Sensitivity on iPhone 6S and 6S Plus:

When 3D touch is enabled it means any touch is an input for your device. Thus like touch screen issues any unwanted pressure can irk you. And also the sensitivity level matters with touch display on either two dimensions or with force. To remain satisfied with the new feature and stop being bothered, Apple suggests you set the sensitivity according to your own use. Following are the steps to customize the iPhone 6S 3D touch.

  1. On your 3D touch-enabled iPhone 6S or iPhone 6S Plus go to Settings > General settings >  Accessibility options.
  2. In the Accessibility options scroll down and locate 3D touch.3D touch
