How to install OxygenOS on OnePlus One

OxygenOS is now available for the download on the OnePlus One devices. As the OnePlus promised to bring its own OS with Lollipop taste parting its ways with Cynanogen. If you don’t have any idea about the OxygenOS, it is a custom ROM made for OnePlus One phones with some new features including the Material Design of Android Lollipop. The OnePlus One devices were running the CyanogenMod in the beginning and both parties i.e. the Cyanogen and the OnePlus got benefits with the partnership but later Micromax involved with the Cyanogen restricting OnePlus to upgrade its phones in the Indian sub-continent. This is where OnePlus decided to go with its own Custom ROM for its phones and the OxygenOS was born.

How to install OxygenOS on OnePlus One phones

To install OxygenOS on the OnePlus One, you must take backup of your phone data and files before beginning. You will need to flash the ROM when installing OxygenOS onto the CyanogenMod, resulting in the loos of all your data. OnePlus warranty does not void due to rooting or flashing your phone but the damage as a result of improper flashing is not covered. Make sure you ve CM recovery of your phone as well to help you rollback the procedure if required. Once you are confident to go ahead:

Step 1: Download the OxygenOs for the OnePlus One one here.

Step 2: Download the Feedback App here.

Step 3: Install the Fastboot and ADB. You can read further details here about the Fastboot and ADB installation.

Step 4: Create a recovery image and place it safe on your computer. To flash a recory image, OnePlus recommends using TWRP. You can perform following instructions to flash a recovery.

a) Boot your phone into fastboot mode. Hold down the power button and the volume up button to boot into the fastboot mode. Once you see the fastboot logo, connect your device to your computer.

b) Open the terminal Window and the run the following commands after going into your recovery image folder.

fastboot oem unlock (You can skip this step if your phone’s bootloader is already unlocked).
fastboot flash recovery . Image file should be the TWRP recovery image.
fastboot reboot


This finishes the installation of recovery image. And now you are ready to install OxygenOS on your OnePlus phone.

Step 5: Copy the download file of OxygenOS which will be named something like oxygenos_1.0.0.flashable.zip on to your phone. You can use the Android File Transfer on your Mac to copy the file.

Step 6: Now Boot your phone into the recovery mode. Hold down the Power button and Volume down key for this purpose.

Step 7: Now that you are in the recovery mode, factory reset your phone again. This will wipe all your data but definitely you already have taken the backup.

Step 8: Now install the OxygenOs by confirming the flash in the installation folder. This will flash OxygenOS onto your device.

Step 9: Now reboot your phone and the OxygenOS on your OnePlus One phone is installed. Starting enjoying the all new interface.
